Lewis & Clark

Sponsored by Hipfish, Amazing Stories Comic Books and Coast Radio

YES! IT IS FINALLY HERE!

ASOC is proud to present the newest venture in original historical, hysterical, musical melodramas! The REAL LEWIS AND CLARK STORY or How FINNS Discovered ASTORIA opens Thursday April 14th and runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm (doors opening at 7:00pm) until April 30th with one Sunday Matinee on April 17th at 2:00pm (doors opening at 1:30pm) at the ASOC Playhouse 129 Bond Street Astoria.

Yes, this historically accurate, family friendly performance from the Astor Street Opry Company is long over due, but just in the nick of time to honor Astoria and during its 200th Bicentennial year. Discovered in 2001 in the pages of an important pioneer journal uncovered in Uniontown Astoria, this offering of fine theatre stage craft will work its way into your heart and memory as our cast of characters right out of the pages of history come alive through re-enactment, song, dance and bad jokes in this lost piece of socially significant melodrama.

Behold for the first time ever the "REAL" story of how Astoria was FIRST discovered by two Finnish boys from the old country, "Minnesota" who with the help of their Mama (and sisters) save the day! Meet Captain Bobby Gray, Miss Jaynie Barnes, the Svenson Sisters, the brave Indian guide Sacagawea, the crew of the Corps of Discovery and a whole cast of colorful characters as we witness our courageous heroes forge their way with dedication and commitment from Saint Charles, Missouri to the Oregon Pacific Coast battling the wilds of nature, evil villains and suffering great tragedy without ever losing their beer supplies! Watch with awe how they (well actually it was the women) come to the gallant rescue of Captains Meriwether Lewis & William Clark and the Corps of Discovery to reach the end of the Pacific Trail first and settle the city they name "ASTORIA" in honor of their relative, John Jacob Svenson-Astor.

Directed and written by Judith P. Niland, with original music by Dr.'s Stanley Azen and Joyce C. Niland of Pasadena, California and Professor Philip Morrill of Astoria, Oregon. With Musical Direction by ChrisLynn Taylor and Choreography by Carleta Lewis Allen, the 2011 cast of the Lewis and Clark melodrama or How the Finns Discovered Astoria includes: Alex Berg, Dale Clark, Scott Korte, Jon Osborn, Rusty House, Julie House, Rhonda Lively, Kera Hoagland, ChrisLynn Taylor, Lynn Hadley, Stacey Poor, Kathy Mathews, Sandi Hilton, Brandon Brunelle, Nathan Leif Rainey, John Howe, Jerry White-Cruz, Connie Cisnens, Avery Hartzel, Bob Goldberg, Sky Gager, Derick Watson, Tiffany Simmons, Lee Muniz, and hosted by our Master of Ceremonies Steve Swenson. And to assure quality, professionalism, and historical accuracy the ASOC own Lewis & Clark Interpreter, Cadet Michael Wangen will be present to oversee the show authenticity.
